Chores more important than hobbies or sex as we age

Being house-proud is more important than continuing with hobbies or being intimate with a partner according to new research from new joint care supplement Osteo Bi-Flex. The research found it is the little things in life we would miss if joint health became a concern. Being unable or struggling to complete household chores (53%) scored higher than being able to continue with hobbies (46%), being intimate with a partner (31%) or walking short distances (51%) when it came to thinking about future joint mobility. However, being unable to dress oneself (50%) or carry/open items (51%) were also seen as concerns.

Being forced to rely on others is the largest issue (73%) for those questioned when considering what losing joint mobility would actually mean to them. Losing mobility is synonymous with being dependent and is scored almost twice as likely as feeling that it means being unable to continue with hobbies (46%) or being confined to a home (43%).

Women are more likely than men to feel that losing joint mobility means having to rely on others (78% of women vs. 66% of men), that they would be unable to do day to day tasks (58% of women vs. 48% of men) and being confined to their home (47% of women vs. 37% of men).

Daily awareness of your posture including: walking and sitting tall; bending from the knees when picking things up; and even weight distribution when carrying bags can assure good joint mobility and strength for years to come.”

Almost all of those surveyed would be willing to do something in order to help maintain their joint health (97%) and two thirds of people over the age of 40 would be willing to take food supplements (63%).
