The Little Dog Company, founded in 1998 by designer Anna Danielle, sells its products globally. In the UK alone, products are stocked in John Lewis, National Trust gift shops, Waitrose and over 850 other independent UK outlets.
Now, the family firm based in Derby, is capitalising on its success by introducing a new baby range called Little Rufus, a spin off from their Rufus Rabbit card range and adding to its already popular lines of The Little Dog Laughed and Really Likes.
Anna, a printed textile graduate from Winchester School of Art, runs the firm with her brother Gavin Smith, who is the managing director and owns half the business with Anna. A second brother, Nathan Smith is the company’s logistics director. The brothers joined the firm in 2003, giving up their own careers to support the first generation family firm.
Speaking of the expansion, Anna said, “We are a true family firm, with high ambitions to create quality gifts and cards for people across the world. Rufus Rabbit, our latest line, sees us expand our offering into baby clothing and newborn gifts, which can only help to broaden our appeal to both retailers and consumers.”
Alongside running a successful business, Anna is also mum to three boys under five and is married to former professional rugby player, Alan Dickens, who recently retired from Northampton Saints RFC Club. Alan is now a full time academy coach for the club.
“I strongly believe in the entrepreneurial spirit and would encourage anyone to put their heart and sole into their own business,” said Anna. “In addition to our work, we are committed to supporting charities and have recently raised over £8,000 for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.”
